MR Full back

MRI of the whole back can provide response to your symptoms

Why MRI Full Back Scanning?

Do you suffer from long-term back pain, acute back pain, pain between the shoulder blades or back pain that radiates down the legs/out into the arms?
The cause of these problems may be incorrect loading and movement of the spine, but may also be due to a congenitally curved spine (scoliosis), wear and tear of discs or vertebrae, herniated discs, compression of nerve roots or outgoing nerves, narrowing of the spinal canal (spinal stenosis), inflammatory back disease (Bechterew's disease) or something as unusual as multiple sclerosis (MS) or a tumor.

MRI scanning of the entire back (from the cervical spine down to the lumbar spine) is a superior technique that provides a clear image of the entire spine, spinal cord and musculature at the mm level. The sooner the cause of your symptoms can be found, the sooner you can receive the right treatment and rehabilitation for your condition.

What happens if a herniated disc is discovered?

A herniated disc is a common cause of chronic back pain. A herniated disc is a crack in the disc that bulges out and presses on/irritates a nerve root.
Herniated discs can occur due to age, accident, high BMI, or overloading of the back.
The result is often severe pain, but not all patients with a herniated disc always have persistent pain, which depends on where the bulge of the disc is located. The pain can come on acutely or insidiously and can also be accompanied by pain radiating into the leg.

10% of all herniated discs in Sweden today are treated with surgery, which is performed depending on the severity or remaining symptoms.

Advanced and harmless examination

MRI Whole Back is a very reliable, simple, painless, and advanced method without any dangerous radiation. With this technique, the entire spine, spinal cord, and surrounding tissue can be visualized at the millimeter level.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the whole back, or Full Back MRI as it is called, does not contain any X-ray radiation and is a reliable, harmless and painless examination.

Is MR Helrygg something for me?

Through MRI scanning, doctors can quickly and clearly identify whether there is damage or other abnormality that may be the cause of your symptoms.
With the help of MRI scanning, your training with a physiotherapist can also be improved because you know what the cause of the pain is and where it is located.

Results of examination from specialist doctor within 7 working days

After your back examination, your scan is first reviewed by an X-ray specialist.
Prevcare's specialist doctors then analyze and compile the results in an individual written report that you will receive within 7 working days after the examination.
You will also receive a USB with your MRI images sent home from your examination.
This way, you will more quickly find out what is causing your symptoms and what treatment is available to you.

Referral to a specialist if necessary

If we discover something serious during your back examination, our doctor will communicate with you and send a referral to your health center or specialist clinic so that you can receive the right help. The referral is included in the cost of the MRI examination at Prevcare Clinic.

Information about MR Full Back

What is an MRI scan?
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI or MRI) is a medical technique for imaging diagnostics using a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) camera.
  • MRI involves taking images using magnetic fields and radio waves without any X-ray radiation, which makes it completely harmless.
  • The technology is used to detect diseases, map injuries and follow up treatments at the millimeter level in almost all human organs, such as tumors, inflammation, fractures, osteoarthritis, stroke and changes in blood vessels and bones.
This is how MR Helrygg works:
  • MRI examinations are performed at X-ray clinics. The images are first reviewed by a specialist in X-ray (radiologist). Prevcare's specialist then reviews the results, writes a summary and recommendations. If necessary, a referral is sent for further processing.
  • When you are examined with an MRI camera, you lie down on a bed that is moved into a so-called magnetic tunnel. There, you lie still while the images are taken. A nurse operates the camera from an adjacent room, and you can talk to the nurse at all times through a microphone and speaker.
  • After the MRI examination, you can leave the clinic immediately.
  • MRI of the entire back takes about 40 minutes.
Who is not suitable for MRI Full Back?
  • If you have electronic equipment implanted in your body, such as a pacemaker, insulin pump or cochlear implant, for example.
  • If you have had surgery on your head or heart and have metal clips implanted instead of stitches after surgery.
  • If you have metal splinters in your eye or other part of your body.
  • If you answered yes to any of the above, tell us so we and our doctor can look at what options are available.
  • Fixed dental fillings, dental implants, prostheses, hip-knee prostheses, and screws in the arms and legs are not an obstacle to an MRI examination.
How do I prepare for the examination?
  • Please state in your health form if you have had previous X-ray examinations. This is so that our doctors can assess your condition as accurately as possible.
  • It is important that you state if you have diabetes, kidney problems or other illnesses in your health form. This is so that our doctors can assess your condition as accurately as possible.
  • It is necessary to tell your doctor if you are pregnant. MRI is generally not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy. In such cases, the examination may be postponed until after the baby is born.
  • It is important that you tell us if you suffer from claustrophobia, or have a general feeling of discomfort in confined spaces. In this case, a discussion can be held with the responsible doctor regarding whether it is necessary to prescribe sedatives to make the examination as comfortable as possible. If you think that you are calmed by music, there is also, in some cases, the possibility of playing music during the examination for your comfort.
  • Also take the opportunity to leave all forms of jewelry and clothing that contain metal at home before you come for the examination.
  • Otherwise, it is good to discuss with the responsible specialist to see if there is anything above that cannot be fulfilled. At Prevcare, we are usually flexible regarding different solutions.
