MRI Femur

MRI Femur can provide answers to your symptoms

Why MRI Femur scanning?

Do you have long-term pain in your thigh, unexplained swelling, other changes or suspected injury after a fall or overload? An MRI scan is an effective and completely safe method to find the cause of the problem.

Unlike regular X-rays, MRI provides detailed images of the skeleton, muscles, tendons and soft tissues – without radiation.

MRI of the femur is particularly useful in cases of suspected muscle rupture, inflammation, infection, stress fracture, impingement, tumor or other change.

For those of you seeking an MRI of the thigh/femur – an MRI is what is recommended.

What happens if a stress fracture is discovered?

A stress fracture of the femur is a common cause of insidious, persistent pain, especially among athletes and active people. These injuries are often not visible on regular X-rays but can be identified with MRI at an early stage.

Early detection is crucial to avoid complications. Treatment usually consists of rest, physiotherapy and, in some cases, surgery.

Advanced and secure examination

MRI is a modern and harmless technology that uses magnetic fields and radio waves to create high-resolution images – without X-ray radiation.

You get a clear visualization of the femur, muscles, periosteum, fatty tissue and other tissues, making it easier to make an accurate diagnosis.

The examination is painless, without radiation and takes about 20 minutes.

Is femur MRI right for you?

MRI is recommended for unexplained pain, suspected injury, swelling, numbness or other changes.

MRI is also an important monitoring method after surgery or when investigating tumors, inflammations and infections.

With MRI, both doctors and physiotherapists receive clear guidance for continued treatment or training.

Results from specialist within 7 working days

After the examination, your MRI images are reviewed by an X-ray specialist. You will then receive a personalized medical report from Prevcare's specialist physician – delivered within 7 working days.

You will also receive your MRI images via a link in your email, from Evidia Röntgen. With quick processing and clear answers, you will move forward faster regarding the management of your symptoms.

Referral to a specialist if necessary

If the examination shows something that requires further care, our doctor - in consultation with you - will send a referral to your health center or specialist.

Referral is included in the cost of the MRI examination and allows you to easily take the next step in your care journey.

What is the difference between an MRI and an MRI scan?

Many people say MRI of the femur, but the medically correct name is MRI or magnetic resonance imaging.

An MRI uses magnetic fields and radio waves to create detailed images – without any X-ray radiation. It is a safe, painless and highly advanced method that provides clear information about bones, muscles and nerves.

If you are experiencing pain, swelling, or suspected injury in your thigh, an MRI can quickly provide answers to what is causing your discomfort.

Information about MRI Femur

What is an MRI scan?
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI or MR) is a medical imaging technique for diagnostic purposes using a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) camera.
  • MRI involves taking images using magnetic fields and radio waves without any X-ray radiation, which makes it completely harmless.
  • The technology is used to detect diseases, map injuries and follow up treatments at the millimeter level in almost all human organs, such as tumors, inflammation, fractures, osteoarthritis, stroke and changes in blood vessels and bones.
How does MRI of the Femur work?
  • MRI examinations are performed at X-ray clinics. The images are first reviewed by a specialist in X-ray (radiologist). Prevcare's specialist then reviews the results, writes a summary and recommendations. If necessary, a referral is sent for further processing.
  • When you are examined with an MRI camera, you lie down on a bed that is moved into a so-called magnetic tunnel. There, you lie still while the images are taken. A nurse operates the camera from an adjacent room, and you can talk to the nurse at all times through a microphone and speaker.
  • After the MRI examination, you can leave the clinic immediately.
  • MRI of the femur takes about 20 minutes.
Who is not suitable for MRI Femur?
  • If you have electronic equipment implanted in your body, such as a pacemaker, insulin pump or cochlear implant, for example.
  • If you have had surgery on your head or heart and have metal clips implanted instead of stitches after surgery.
  • If you have metal splinters in your eye or other part of your body.
  • If you answered yes to any of the above, tell us so we and our doctor can look at what options are available.
  • Fixed dental fillings, dental implants, prostheses, hip-knee prostheses, and screws in the arms and legs are not an obstacle to an MRI examination.
How do I prepare for an MRI of the Femur?
  • Please state in your health form if you have had previous X-ray examinations. This is so that our doctors can assess your condition as accurately as possible.
  • It is important that you state if you have diabetes, kidney problems or other illnesses in your health form. This is so that our doctors can assess your condition as accurately as possible.
  • It is necessary to tell your doctor if you are pregnant. MRI is generally not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy. In such cases, the examination may be postponed until after the baby is born.
  • It is important that you tell us if you suffer from claustrophobia, or have a general feeling of discomfort in confined spaces. In this case, a discussion can be held with the responsible doctor regarding whether it is necessary to prescribe sedatives to make the examination as comfortable as possible. If you think that you are calmed by music, there is also, in some cases, the possibility of playing music during the examination for your comfort.
  • Also take the opportunity to leave all forms of jewelry and clothing that contain metal at home before you come for the examination.
  • Otherwise, it is good to discuss with the responsible specialist to see if there is anything above that cannot be fulfilled. At Prevcare, we are usually flexible regarding different solutions.
