MRI Pituitary Gland

MRI Pituitary can provide answers to your symptoms

Why MRI of the pituitary gland?

Do you have hormonal disorders, vision changes, headaches or a suspected pituitary tumor? An MRI scan is the most reliable method for examining the structure of the pituitary gland and detecting any changes.

Unlike regular X-rays, MRI provides detailed images of both the pituitary gland and surrounding structures in the brain – completely without radiation.

MRI of the pituitary gland is used when there is suspicion of, for example, hormone-producing adenoma, pituitary insufficiency, cysts, inflammation or other effects on the function of the gland.

For those of you seeking an MRI of the pituitary gland – it is an MRI scan that you need.

What happens if an adenoma is discovered in the pituitary gland?

Pituitary adenomas are usually benign tumors that can affect hormone production. Some cause no symptoms, while others can cause disorders in growth, metabolism, fertility, or vision.

Early detection is important – especially if the tumor is pressing on the optic nerve or affecting hormone balance. Treatment may consist of medication, hormone replacement, or in some cases surgery.

Advanced and secure examination

MRI is a modern and harmless technology that uses magnetic fields and radio waves to create high-resolution images – without X-ray radiation.

You get a clear visualization of the pituitary gland and surrounding brain structures, making it easier to detect even small changes.

The examination is painless, without radiation and takes about 20 minutes.

Is pituitary MRI right for you?

MRI is recommended for hormonal disorders, suspected tumors, blurred vision, headaches, or other changes that may be due to pituitary function.

The examination is also used for follow-up after treatment or surgery of previous pituitary changes.

With MRI, doctors get a clear basis for decisions regarding further treatment or investigation.

Results from specialist within 7 working days

After the examination, your MRI images are reviewed by an X-ray specialist. You will then receive a personalized medical report from Prevcare's specialist physician – delivered within 7 working days.

You will also receive your MRI images via a link in your email, from Evidia Röntgen. With quick processing and a clear report, you will progress faster in your care.

Referral to a specialist if necessary

If the examination shows something that requires further investigation, our doctor - in consultation with you - will send a referral to your health center or specialist.

The referral is included in the cost and allows you to easily proceed with the right care.

What is the difference between an MRI and an MRI scan?

Many people seek an MRI of the pituitary gland, but the medically correct name is MRI or magnetic resonance imaging.

MRI uses magnetic fields and radio waves to create highly detailed images – without any radiation. It is a safe, painless and precise method that is particularly suitable for examining the brain and pituitary gland.

Information about MRI Pituitary Gland

What is an MRI scan?
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI or MR) is a medical imaging technique for diagnostic purposes using a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) camera.
  • MRI involves taking images using magnetic fields and radio waves without any X-ray radiation, which makes it completely harmless.
  • The technology is used to detect diseases, map injuries and follow up treatments at the millimeter level in almost all human organs, such as tumors, inflammation, fractures, osteoarthritis, stroke and changes in blood vessels and bones.
How does MRI of the Pituitary gland work?
  • MRI examinations are performed at X-ray clinics. The images are first reviewed by a specialist in X-ray (radiologist). Prevcare's specialist then reviews the results, writes a summary and recommendations. If necessary, a referral is sent for further processing.
  • When you are examined with an MRI camera, you lie down on a bed that is moved into a so-called magnetic tunnel. There, you lie still while the images are taken. A nurse operates the camera from an adjacent room, and you can talk to the nurse at all times through a microphone and speaker.
  • After the MRI examination, you can leave the clinic immediately.
  • MRI Pituitary takes about 20 minutes.
Who is not suitable for MRI Pituitary?
  • If you have electronic equipment implanted in your body, such as a pacemaker, insulin pump or cochlear implant, for example.
  • If you have had surgery on your head or heart and have metal clips implanted instead of stitches after surgery.
  • If you have metal splinters in your eye or other part of your body.
  • If you answered yes to any of the above, tell us so we and our doctor can look at what options are available.
  • Fixed dental fillings, dental implants, prostheses, hip-knee prostheses, and screws in the arms and legs are not an obstacle to an MRI examination.
How do I prepare for a Pituitary MRI?
  • Please state in your health form if you have had previous X-ray examinations. This is so that our doctors can assess your condition as accurately as possible.
  • It is important that you state if you have diabetes, kidney problems or other illnesses in your health form. This is so that our doctors can assess your condition as accurately as possible.
  • It is necessary to tell your doctor if you are pregnant. MRI is generally not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy. In such cases, the examination may be postponed until after the baby is born.
  • It is important that you tell us if you suffer from claustrophobia, or have a general feeling of discomfort in confined spaces. In this case, a discussion can be held with the responsible doctor regarding whether it is necessary to prescribe sedatives to make the examination as comfortable as possible. If you think that you are calmed by music, there is also, in some cases, the possibility of playing music during the examination for your comfort.
  • Also take the opportunity to leave all forms of jewelry and clothing that contain metal at home before you come for the examination.
  • Otherwise, it is good to discuss with the responsible specialist to see if there is anything above that cannot be fulfilled. At Prevcare, we are usually flexible regarding different solutions.
